Making successful camgirl shows is not unattainable but it is also not something easy. In this article I give you my 10 tips that I think are the most important to make your showcams successful.
The tips below are all important, they are not in order of importance. So take the time to read through to the last one.
Note that some of the tips are only applicable to freemium platforms. If you’re broadcasting in private shows on premium platforms, read anyway, it’s not uninteresting (at least I hope so 😄).
Tip 1: Take care of your look and presentation
The camgirl business is a performance business, you are always putting on a show. It is thus essential to be at the top for each live and that passes by a small ritual before each of your shows:
- take a shower! This will relax you and you will be clean from head to toe to perform in good conditions.
- take the time to do your hair, makeup and possibly put on some jewelry. It is customary to say that you have to stay fairly natural so don’t overdo it either. Personally, I get ready as if I’m going to a “fancy” party.
- Underwear and sexy outfits are de rigueur. It’s hard to give universal advice on this as it depends on your niche and audience. But in general, choose your outfits according to what your audience likes most and don’t hesitate to renew this post regularly.
- Being coquettish (naughty 😉 ) and attractive is fine, but don’t neglect the room you’re broadcasting in. It should be clean, tidy and well lit. If you don’t have a room specifically for your camgirl activity, don’t forget to remove any personal items (family photos, …).
- prepare your sex toys, sex machines and lubricant in advance. For battery operated sex toys, make sure they are well charged.
I grant you, this is all common sense but I still regularly observe camgirls who don’t pay enough attention to their appearance. Besides, what’s better than knowing that you’ve given yourself the best chance for self-confidence? And for a novice camgirl, self-confidence is an important thing. So don’t neglect this preparation step inherent in every show.
Tip 2: Be positive, smiling and cheerful
Whatever the situation, you should always remain positive and smiling (and naughty!). While this is relatively easy when there is a lot of interaction with viewers, it becomes more difficult during “slow” times, with few tippers/viewers or potential clients for a private show. It’s unfortunately natural, hard to stay motivated while staring stupidly at your webcam without interaction with anyone…
But whether you’re on a premium or freemium site, keeping a smiling, attractive face and sexy, naughty poses under these conditions is paramount. Most webcam sites use images of your live to display as thumbnails on the homepage. So even if you don’t have anyone in your room, you need to keep smiling and looking attractive. Viewers surfing the homepage looking for a camgirl of their liking will be more likely to come to your room.
This is especially true for premium platforms where the wait times between private shows are naturally quite high and the interaction with viewers much lower than on a freemium platform. So don’t sit on your chair and wait for someone. The only way to provoke this (virtual) meeting is to play with your image. So smile, seduce, tease whatever the situation!
Tip 3: Focus on the tippers first
It is important that you focus on the people who are likely to give you tips, the potential tippers, as a priority. Firstly because they are actually more likely to give you tokens but also because they usually stay in your room longer.
And this last point is far from negligible. I already talked about it in the article “improve your ranking on cam sites”, the ranking on the homepage of cam sites depends, for many platforms, on the number of viewers registered in the different rooms. So the more viewers you have, the higher you are placed in the ranking. And the higher you are, the more people see you and are likely to come to your room. So you get more viewers, so you get ranked even higher,… it’s a virtuous circle.
Many cam platforms allow you to distinguish potential tippers (=having money on their account on the platform and/or having already tipped) from viewers with no money who are only there to watch for free and move from camgirl to camgirl. Or to distinguish between registered users and non-registered users who are just there to have a look for free. Each platform has its own specificities but they can generally be distinguished by the color of their nickname. For example on chaturbate, only talk to “grey” if you don’t have tippers in your room or they don’t chat with you.
Tip 4: Nothing is free – don’t sell out
Camming is a job, and like any job it deserves compensation. So don’t do anything for free. Of course, you can (and should) always dance and charm your audience for free, but never do anything more (masturbation, penetration, anal,…) without financial compensation.
This is of course the case on premium platforms where, because of the way they work, viewers are obliged to pay for private shows. But it is then tempting for the novice camgirls to offer very low rates per minute to attract customers. It’s a race to the bottom where no one wins in the long run because it pulls the prices of all camgirls down. So don’t do it, or maybe you want to get some experience and improve your confidence on your first shows, but one or two shows max, not more.
.
On freemium platforms, it’s also tempting when you’re just starting out to do a lot for free, without having tokens in exchange, to attract people to your room. This is also to be avoided in most cases. Why would viewers come and tip you if they already get almost everything for nothing? Instead, create a “tips menu” where you clearly state what you do in exchange for how many tokens. This way you can add cheap actions that will obviously remain “soft” but allow everyone to participate.
In summary, don’t be ashamed to ask for money for what you do. It’s a job, it’s okay to get paid! Keep in mind that the vast majority of your audience is only there for a free show so don’t waste your time on them.
Tip 5: Don’t be afraid to use your voice
No, I’m not going to tell you that a good camgirl should be able to sing 😉. However, a good camgirl should not hesitate to use her voice, in other words speak, when broadcasting live.
You should talk even if there are not many or no registered users in your room. On cam sites, users want interaction with camgirls, they want to get to know you, decipher your personality. And voice is a much more personal way of communicating than writing. So talk, tell them things so they know you, so they get attached to you. Viewers will stay in your room longer and you increase the likelihood of them dropping tips.
Remember, if viewers are on a cam site it is primarily to have interaction with the camgirls. Otherwise, they would go to a regular porn site. So offer them that interaction they are looking for.
Tip 6: Ask your viewers to follow you
This is a simple tip but one that is forgotten by many camgirls. It’s simply asking your viewers to follow you, to add you to their favorites.
This way, they will be notified when you log in (by email, browser notification or thumbnail in a specific tab for some cam platforms). You will then more easily get a consistent number of viewers in your room. So a better ranking on the homepage of the cam site and more potential tips.
So don’t hesitate to regularly remind your viewers to follow you, either verbally (more personal and punchy) or in writing (automatically using bots)
Tip 7: Get help from bots and moderators
This tip is especially valuable for camgirls broadcasting on freemium platforms. On these platforms, a camgirl has many things to do: handle rude viewers, moderate the chat, remind her rules, remind the next goal, regularly broadcast menu tips,… In short quite a lot of things while still chatting with viewers and performing her show. Easy women are multitaskers, right?
Thankfully, you can help yourself with two tools: bots and moderators:
- bots ( or apps depending on the platform) are bots that allow you to automate a number of tasks. Not all cam sites provide these bots but if they do, don’t waste your time writing in your chat about things that can be automated: number of tokens left before the next goal, reminder of the tips menu, the best tipper of the day, request to add to favorites… There are bots for almost everything!
- moderators are people who will help you manage your chat while you focus on your show. Most often, it is to ban or prohibit the chat to undesirable people (insults, rudeness, …). You will find it difficult during your first shows but it will happen naturally afterwards (proposal of a regular viewer for example).
In conclusion, focus on the tasks with high added value (= your show) and delegate to robots or humans the ancillary functions. Be careful though, using bots is so easy and fast that it can be tempting to add a lot of them. Take it easy anyway, don’t spam your own chat…
Tip 8: Structure your show – Set clear and achievable goals
You need to structure your show. Your show is definitely going to last several hours, so no way you’re going to log in already naked inserting an anal plug. I’m deliberately caricaturing but you need to plan your show a little. Before you start, you must have an idea of what you are going to do and when. Of course, the pace will also depend on the interaction with the viewers and their tips. So they need to know what they are going to get and for how much. To help you, there are several “tools”:
- the tips menu: this is simply writing clearly what you do in exchange for how many tokens. For example:Show and play titsfor50 tokens, Slap the Ass 5 timesfor70 tokens, Show and play pussy and assfor100 tokens, Oil show for120 tokens, Fuck pussyfor140, Anal plugfor 170 tokens, …. Of course, the rates should be consistent and progressive. It’s up to you to create your tips menu and display it clearly in your profile.
- set goals/objectives/tagets (the denomination varies according to the platforms): this is to indicate as the show progresses the next step according to the total number of tokens received. For example, when you start the show, you can indicate: next goal: topless 250 tokens. Once this goal is reached, you specify a new one: next goal: naked 600 tokens. To kick off the show, feel free to set easy-to-reach goals to increase viewer participation. Also, don’t put too big a gap between goals. If the next goal is 2000 tokens, you risk discouraging your tippers…
- don’t hesitate to tease to make your tippers “drool”. For example, “if you’re good tonight, I’ll bring out the fuckmachine at 11pm”. This will insist them to stay until the end and thus potentially participate by tipping from time to time. It’s kind of a mega goal. On the other hand it should generally not be encrypted (in token) so as not to discourage them.
One note for these last two points. You can adjust the number of tokens for objectives to the involvement of your tippers. If you see that you have one or more big tippers in your room, don’t hesitate to go pretty hard… I’ve had the same tipper give only by 500 tokens at a time several times. In this case, do not deprive yourself, it goes up very quickly!
A note for users of connected sex toys like the Lovense (which I highly recommend). You need to create a tips menu specific to your sextoys that will work alongside the main tips menu. For example: Tip (1-14) Low 3 seconds, Tip (15-25) Medium 5 seconds, Tip (25-759) High 10 seconds,… Rest assured, compatible cam platforms handle all this automatically, you only have to set the thresholds and the app will take care of vibrating the sextoy automatically according to the tips.
Tip 9: Persistence is a key to success
The first few days, or even weeks, of camgirls are usually pretty tough. You may spend more time waiting for viewers than actually performing shows. It is quite hard to live with morally but this is normal.
All the successful camgirls have gone through these moments, except maybe the ex-porn stars who were already famous. The difference between these successful camgirls and the others? Perseverance. They kept going and worked hard to get the community and success they have today.
The camgirl business is a low barrier to entry business. This means that it doesn’t take much to get into this business. No staff, no investment. No, only being a girl and owning a webcam. The downside is that there is a lot of competition so you have to persevere and be more serious than others to succeed.
During the first few shows, stay focused even if there are no viewers and stay online as much as possible. Tell yourself that this is normal. If you apply the advice in this article and the blog in general (what, I’m not allowed to throw myself around? 🙂 ), the viewers and tippers will gradually come.
I’m not going to give you a mindset paragraph like it’s fashionable in entrepreneurship right now. But know that you will have moments of doubt, that’s normal. In these moments, stay focused on your goals, why you are doing this (money, space freedom, no boss,…). Persevere, learn, start over, you’ll get there eventually.
Tip 10: Get your audience involved
The best way to find out what your viewers want is still to ask them! It may sound silly but don’t be afraid to ask them what they prefer, what they would like you to do.
You can ask them as much about the theme of the next show as about your “specialties” (to improve your tips menu) or even about the next goal they would like.
Once again, cam platform users are there for interactivity so listen to them and get them involved. By really involving them in the making of the show you will create a special bond with them that will keep them coming back to see the next ones. Even more so if they are the ones who chose the theme!
You can also create a poll on your Twitter account (in pin post) and refer viewers to it. This is a simple way to increase your twitter followers and thus legitimize your account and increase your ability to Follow/Unfollow (see this article on managing your twitter account).
Bonus Tip: Multi-Person Shows
Multiplayer shows are a great way to increase your viewer/followers/tippers. As a general rule, people love watching live sex, especially when they can interact with the 2 (or more^^) protagonists.
- hetero show: sexfriend or companion, many will find it existing but won’t necessarily be ready to take the step. It’s up to you to convince them. The fear of being recognized is often the blocking point. The advice given in this article can be applied for the most part. Attention, it must remain a pleasure so do not insist heavily if your potential partner is not willing.
- Lesbian show: its shows are usually very successful. Being absolutely not sexually attracted to girls, I have never practiced. Nevertheless, you only have to browse a few cam sites to see how successful this type of show is. A variant is to make a lesbian show with another camgirl. You then increase the community of each with the subscribers of the other. Of course, we must find a camgirl with whom we get along and who lives not too far from home. But it works terribly well.
Personally, I have done several shows with one of my exes. Besides the financial aspect, I have great memories of it 😍😍!
