Twitter is the only mainstream social network that allows adult content. It has over 320 million monthly active users in 2024. For a camgirl, or more generally for anyone working in the adult field, it is therefore the best vector to promote themselves and find new viewers. Despite its apparent ease, Twitter nevertheless requires some knowledge to make the most of it.
The basics of Twitter for camgirls
Before we get into the nitty-gritty and “underground” methods in the second part of this article, I think it’s important to go over the basics of Twitter. This may seem obvious to some camgirls, but I still see many people who use Twitter for promotional purposes overlooking many of these points.
Filling out your Twitter profile correctly
The first thing to do is to make your Twitter profile ATTRACTIVE and make it stand out from the competition. Indeed, what could be more regrettable than an Internet user who stumbles on your profile and leaves it directly because the bio is not filled in, the profile image is not attractive or even absent or that the banner lacks creativity.
- profile image / banner: put images that attract the eye and are to your advantage. On the other hand while it is obvious that they should be sexy, they should not show too much nudity. Your profile picture can be a photo of you in sexy clothes. For your banner, a photo showing your curves but blurred with your nickname written in watermark is a good solution. You should suggest but not show!
- bio: hard to be original in less than 160 characters. State that you are camgirl / model cam, your specialty and add a few well-chosen emojis.
- link: Twitter gives you the opportunity to add a link in your profile and this from its creation. No condition on the seniority of the account or the number of subscribers exists. It would be a shame to deprive you of this possibility. Put a link to your website, your chatroom or your allmylinks page. If you put the link of your room, do not hesitate to use an affiliate link (see the benefits in this article).
Content is king!
Content is king! (content is king!). This well-known formula of SEOs (=referrer on google) is also valid on social networks like Twitter. It simply means that the content you publish is the most important part of your communication strategy. Be careful, it’s not about posting a lot of content (=full of 280 characters tweets) but quality content. But then, how to measure the quality of the tweet? Simply, by the engagement it generates.
The engagement of your audience is simply measured by the number of likes, rewteets, replies, photo opens, video plays or even the number of clicks on the links you post. How do you produce quality content to get good engagement? Some tips:
- first, post content that your audience is interested in! Don’t make a tweet to say you just got back from the races for example. On the other hand, a tweet to say you’re coming back from the gym paired with a picture of you in a tight outfit is right on topic. Use your imagination, you will see that there are plenty of moments that can be transcribed under a ‘sexy’ angle.
- Don’t make your tweet too long. Although twitter has raised the limit to 280 characters, the tweets that get the most engagement are around 100 characters.
- tweets with photos, GIFs or videos get better engagement than pure text tweets. Logical, but don’t forget it!
- You can also add Emojis to make your tweets stand out among the rest.
- Don’t add the link to the cam site to every tweet! You risk being classified as spam and Twitter will Shadowban you. Instead refer to the link in your bio see in the pin post.
Post regularly and at the right time
Unlike a website that will keep its google ranking even if the webmaster doesn’t write a new article for 2 months, not posting on social networks such as Twitter makes you fall into oblivion almost instantly. It is therefore essential to post regularly on Twitter. Do not hesitate to tweet every day, or even several times a day. A minimum of several tweets per week is necessary to maintain your “fan” base and attract new ones.
In addition to regularity, the time you post your tweet is also important. The same tweet will not have the same impact if it is posted at 11am or 9pm. Similarly, for the same schedule, the impact will not be the same between a weekday and a weekend.
What is the best time? There is no universal answer. It depends primarily on the location of your audience (French or English speaking majority audience?). The best answer I can give you is to test and experiment. Test several schedules and keep the ones that get the most visibility and engagement. Use the Twitter Analytics tool to do this. More information from the “Analyze your Audience” paragraph.
Optimize Hashtag usage
Hashtags are part of the essence of Twitter. They are structured elements (#+keyword, for example #camgirl) that allow users to find relevant tweets related to the topic of one’s choice. The use of hashtags is therefore essential to increase the visibility of its tweets. A tweet with hashtags will generate more impressions (=it will be seen by a larger number of people) than the same tweet without hashtag.
Beware though, too many hashtags per tweet will result in a lower user engagement rate. That is to say, he will be less likely to like, retweet or click on a link if the tweet has too many hashtags. There is no universal rule but the optimum visibility/engagement seems to be around 2 hashtags per tweet.
What hashtag(s) to use for a camgirl? There are several strategies:
- the generalist thematic hashtags: e.g. #camgirl, #cammodel, #liveshow, #porn, #NSFW,… They have the advantage of being quite popular and sought after. The downside is that you end up competing with a lot of Twitter accounts.
- the specific, “nested” hashtags: e.g. #hairypussy, #shavedpussy, #bigass, #fuckmachine, #fingering, #bigboobs… They are less sought after than generalist hashtags but are also subject to less competition. It’s up to you to find the ones that best describe your shows and your physique.
- the popular hashtags of the moment: this is a strategy that consists of using the top hashtags related in particular to current events to generate visitors to your account. I personally find this strategy a bit borderline but know that it exists. Do not abuse it, it seems that you can be penalized by Twitter (Shadowban for example) but I never checked it by myself. For example, as I write this article #Covid_19 and #TPMP are two very popular hashtags. So you can make a tweet like:
Sick of being locked in your house because of the #Covid_19 watching #TPMP? Come relax in front of my show! Liendushow
From my end, I use a mix of the first two points. It’s also important to make sure you don’t consistently use the same hashtags. You can also use tools like hashtagify to analyze and find your “best” hashtags.
Spark engagement!
As we’ve seen before, engaging your audience is the first thing you should look for to grow your Twitter account and consequently the number of viewers in your camgirl room. In addition to the above tips, there are several simple techniques that can be used to increase the engagement of your followers. The basic idea is to encourage your followers to express themselves, to interact with your tweets. How do you do this? Here are some simple examples:
- Feel free to add a phrase like “Like and retweet if you like my new bodysuit! ” at the end of a tweet showing off your new sexy outfit acquisition. It’s simple and it may seem silly to you, but it still works terribly well!
- Similarly, you can poll your followers on their preference between two proposals (sexy outfit, sextoy, theme of the next show…) and indicate “Like if you prefer proposalA, retweet if you prefer proposalB”. It’s like a 2-choice poll but you’ll win likes and retweets for sure!
- You can also do polls on various topics and ask your followers to justify their choice by leaving a response. Note that in addition to increasing the engagement of your followers (through replies, likes, …), it also allows you to know the expectations of your audience. And so know how to fill them in exchange for tokens during your shows!
- Don’t hesitate also to publish tweets that encourage your followers to take action when you are in a show or when you start a show. Like “Show in progress on #Chaturbate! Like and retweet if you like my new #sextoy! Liendushow”. People will come to see your show and some will retweet, bringing in other potential viewers.
It’s very important that you understand the snowball effect/virtuous circle of increasing engagement with your audience:
- more likes = more legitimate and interesting account in the eyes of the Twitter algorithm = better visibility given by twitter= more views = more followers and likes = …
- more retweets = more legitimate and interesting account in the eyes of the Twitter algorithm + more visibility (due to retweets) = more views = more followers and retweets = …
You have here one of the keys, see the most important key, of the growth of your twitter account.
The importance of pin post
The pin post, or pinned post in French, is a tweet that you put forward by positioning it in the first position. It is therefore the tweet that will be the most seen by users coming to your profile. It is even statistically more read than your bio.
You can use it in several ways. You can use it to highlight your link to your room on webcam sites. This way your link will be highlighted without the need to tweet and retweet the same link which could be considered spam by Twitter. If your pin post tweet is attractive, it will only be beneficial.
You can also use it to highlight a tweet that asks for your audience’s engagement (poll about your outfit for the next show, question about the theme of Sunday’s show…). This way, your tweet will be more visible and you’ll get more responses.
Last but not least, don’t keep the same pin post for too long so as not to bore your audience. There is no rule on the duration, but changing it every 2 weeks or even every month seems to be a good average.
Analyze your audience
As you can see from this article, optimizing the operation and growth of one’s Twitter account involves many periods of testing and adjustment. The goal being to get the best strategy possible: times to post, length of tweets, hashtag to use, types of tweet, type of photo or videos with the most impact… Carrying out tests and making adjustments requires knowing the impact of our actions on our audience. This is exactly the function of the Twitter Analytics tool.
The Analytics tool (or Statistics if you use twitter in French) is a tool integrated into Twitter that gives you a lot of information, including:
- for each tweet: the number of impressions, the number of engagement, the number of likes, the number of rewtweet, the number of clicks on a link, the number of replies…
- a summary per day: rate of engagement, the number of impression, the number of like, the number of rewtweet, the number of click on a link, the number of response…
- the evolution of the elements listed above during the last X days, months…
All this data is extremely important and available for free via https://analytics.twitter.com/. You would be wrong to deprive yourself of using them to optimize your communication strategy on Twitter.
Beware of shadowban!
The Shadowban is a practice used by Twitter, and other social networks, which consists of limiting the visibility of your profile and/or tweets without your knowledge. In French, we might translate this method as ‘stealth banning’.
There are several levels of shadowban. This ranges from simply not appearing in search results to no visibility of your tweets at all, even to your followers. Since Twitter doesn’t inform you of this shadowban, you have to use third-party tools to know the status of your account. shadowban.eu is the most well-known.
Nice, but why would Twitter apply a shadowban to your profile or tweets? That’s a good question and Twitter is pretty quiet on the subject. Nevertheless, several studies and tests have already been done and we can highlight a few points.
The behaviors below increase the risk of shadowban:
- using aggressive, confrontational or insulting language to reply to a user or tweet.
- using the same or similar text to reply to multiple other accounts or in multiple tweets in a short period of time (spam).
- use the same or similar images in multiple tweets or to reply to multiple other accounts in a short period of time (spam).
- tweet or reply in quick succession in a short period of time.
- follow or unfollow a large number of people in a short period of time.
- contact people who do not follow you.
Now, not all accounts are equal when it comes to the shadowban penalty. There are elements inherent to your account that make it more prone to shadowban or on the contrary much less prone.
- Your account age: the older your account is, the less prone it is to shadowban. Accounts less than a year old are more likely to be subject to this type of penalty for behavior listed above.
- the follower/following ratio: the higher this ratio the less likely your account is to suffer a shadowban penalty. For example if you have 2500 followers and 500 followings, you can make many more aggressive tweets before being shadowbaned than an account with 100 followers and 1000 followings.
- The trust of your account: it depends on your number of followers and your engagement rate, among other things. The higher these parameters are, the higher your trust (=confidence) and therefore less sensitive to shadowban.
What to do in case of shadowban? It’s simple, stop all activity on your account and wait a few days, between 2 and 5 usually. The penalty will be automatically lifted. But if you continue to use Twitter with a behavior that is penalizable in their eyes despite the penalty, the delay to get out of the shadowban will be much more important. So keep an eye on it.
Advanced tips for camgirls to explode on Twitter
After detailing the basics of community management on Twitter in the previous part, I will now explain, point by point, different strategies to explode the growth of your account and thus the number of viewers sent to your room on the webcam site.
These strategies are much more powerful and more importantly automatable. Automation will be the focus of the third part of this article.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty, it is important that you are aware that these strategies are in a “gray area”. They are neither really allowed nor really prohibited if you stay below certain critical thresholds. The problem is that these thresholds depend on a large number of parameters such as the age of your account, the number of followers or the follower/following ratio. It’s up to you to do your own tests and to go back if you went too far.
There are just several signs that you’ve gone too far:
- Your tweets are shadowbans,
- Twitter makes you perform “Password Resets,
- Twitter asks you to verify your account by sending a code via sms.
If you observe these symptoms, don’t panic. Stop these strategies for a few days. When you start again, go for less aggressive (lower threshold).
I will nevertheless give you, for the different strategies, the values that no can consider as “safe” for a recent account so that you are safe from any problem. Still, wait for a month’s seniority and a few followers before using these strategies.
The magic of Follow/Unfollow
The basis of these strategies is the Follow/Unfollow. This is a simple but very effective method. It consists initially of following people on Twitter. This is called the “Follow”. These people will be notified and some will visit your profile. If your profile interests them, they will subscribe in return. This is called “Follow back”.
In order not to have too many following and thus a follower/following ratio much lower than 1 (risk of shadowban, phone verification,…), you will have to unsubscribe people after a few days. This is called “UnFollow”. There are two schools of thought: either you unsubscribe only from people who have not followed you back, or you unsubscribe from everyone. I personally use this second method because it allows you to have a follower/following ratio much higher than 1. You have many more followers than you follow people. This legitimizes the account both in the eyes of Twitter and in the eyes of other users.
Below are some numbers to use for a recent account:
- Number of follows per day: between 25 and 35
- Don’t do the whole follow at the same time. Spread the follows (unfollows) throughout the day.
- Pause between 5 and 10s between each follow (unfollow)
- Delay of 8 days mini before performing the Unfollow. I actually prefer to leave a week minimum to ensure there is a weekend in between. I personally have more Follow back on the weekend.
Again, those are pretty safe thresholds. For older accounts with more followers, you’ll need to test to know the limits as stated in the introduction to this part.
Personally, I got as far as following over 500 new people a day in late 2017/early 2018. Twitter has since become stricter on this practice so I’ve had to scale back.
Follow/Unfollow followers of your competitors
While doing Follow/Unfollow accounts on a whim you theoretically have a 50% chance of running into someone interested (men for those who didn’t get it 😉 ), it makes more sense to target accounts that are truly interested in your content.
Who is really interested in your content? First of all, those who are interested in your competitors’ content. You will have understood, to find accounts interested in showcams, the simplest is to follow the followers of your competitors’ accounts more developed on Twitter. Simple, but it was necessary to think about it!
You can also target followers of accounts of companies working in porn. Prefer groups doing paid porn, there’s a better chance their followers are willing to pay for showcams than Pornhub or Youporn followers.
Follow/Unfollow very active users
As we saw in the first part of this article, follower engagement is one of the drivers of your Twitter account growth. So it’s crucial to find followers who are used to liking or retweeting. This is what we call active users. You will have understood, the idea here is to perform Follow/Unfollow on active users interested in our niche (in the marketing sense, obviously 😉 ).
But how to find these active users? Two solutions:
- As in the previous paragraph, use your competitors. This is not about Follow/Unfollow their followers but only people who have liked or retweeted their tweets.
- More generally, look for tweets related to the cam or porn fields that have been heavily liked and retweeted. You will then only have to perform the Follow/Unfollow on the people who liked and retweeted these tweets. To do this you just have to play with the advanced search operators below:
min_faves:XXX | tweet with min like count of XXX |
min_retweets:XXX | tweet with min_retweet count of XXX |
min_replies:XXX | tweet with min_replies:XXX |
lang:en (lang:en) | tweet written in French (in English) |
XXX OR YYY | tweet with the word XXX or YYY |
XXX AND YYY | tweet containing the words XXX and YYY |
For example, to search for a tweet with the word boobs or bigboobs in it, written in English and having been liked more than 25 times, you would search:
boobs OR bigboobs lang:en min_faves:25
It’s up to you to play with these operators to best target active users interested in your content.
Tips to increase Follow Back rate
In a Follow/Unfollow strategy, the Follow Back rate is the ratio of the number of people who Follow you Back to the number of people you have Followed. For the same number of Follow people per day, the higher the Follow Back rate, the bigger your account grows.
Since the number of people Follow per day is limited (see above, shadowban risk, phone verification…), it is important to maximize the Follow Back rate. This can be done in two ways:
- Targeting interested people. We have already dealt with this point previously.
- Increase the visibility of our follow on followed twitter accounts. To do this, you just have to like 1 or 2 tweets of the person you just followed. So he will have 1 notification for the follow + 1 to 2 notifications for the like(s). So there is more chance that he will notice you and follow you back.
By targeting people as best as possible and liking their posts, I have a Follow Back rate of about 35%. By following 280 new people per day (be careful, not to do with a recent account with few followers!!), I therefore get a hundred additional subscribers every day. And that’s not counting the new subscribers coming naturally, either from Chartubate, or by search, or by seeing a retweet from one of my followers.
Do the math, my account is growing by over 3000 subscribers every month and that’s with little to no effort because everything is automated!
Plan your tweets to post regularly without too much constraint
As we saw in the first part of this article, tweeting regularly and at the right time is paramount to maximizing the impact of your tweets. The problem is that it can quickly become extremely restrictive as for example if you have another activity on the side or you wanted to make an exit with girlfriends or … In short, the reasons are multiple.
To alleviate this problem, all you have to do is plan your tweets. You prepare them in advance, save them in a specific tool and it will post them at the time you choose.
There are plenty of free software that allow you to plan and publish tweets. Here are some of them:
- tweetdeck: this is a tool that was bought by Twitter and is therefore perfectly integrated with it. It is also very easy to use.
- hootsuite: very complete tool for managing social networks (not only Twitter). It is used by many community managers. A little “overkill” compared to our needs but because of this the free version is sufficient for our use.
- buffer: buffer is a tool dedicated to the planning and analysis of publications on social networks. There is a free account that allows you to plan 10 tweets in advance.
There are of course other tools, but this is the most known. On my side, I mainly use tweetdeck because it is easy to use and perfectly integrated with twitter. I also use the tool that allows me to automate the Follow/Unfollow because it has this scheduling feature.
Sending DM to new followers
It is possible to send a DM to each new follower to encourage them to come see your shows. For this technique to be effective, the messages should be personalized, unique and should not consistently include your room link. If each message includes the same link or if the messages are identical, your DMs will be assimilated has spam with for consequence a risk of ban.
Personally, I’m not a fan of this method because I find it intrusive. Now, if it is well done (personalized and different DMs, no systematic link to your room,…) it can be effective. It’s up to you to see how far you are willing to go in “canvassing”.
From my side, I prefer things to look more natural and therefore bet on the fact that these followers will be converted later, via classic but attractive tweets!
Opinion on buying followers – likes – retweets
Buying followers, likes or retweets is an issue that comes up a lot in the world of social networking because it helps to legitimize one’s account in the eyes of users. Personally, I am rather against these practices because:
- This is neither more nor less than cheating.
- This is still generally fake followers, even more so on low cost services (or likes/retweets from fake followers).
- Bought followers usually disappear after a few weeks/months as their accounts are regularly banned.
- The cost of these services quickly becomes significant, especially to have a consistent and regular number of likes/retweets.
- By applying the methods listed in this article, you will be able to quickly get real likes, followers and retweets.
However, there is one case where buying followers, and only followers, can be justified. This is a beginner starting from scratch. The purchase of followers has two advantages:
- the number of followers will legitimize her account in the eyes of users stumbling upon it (by chance or through Follow/Unfollow). This will increase its notoriety and thus the Follow Back rate.
- The number of followers and therefore the better follower/following ratio will allow him to be more aggressive on the number of follow/day as part of the Follow/Unfollow strategy.
In other words, buying followers for a beginner is a good boost to get the ball rolling. Avoid “low cost” services or else your followers will disappear within days of appearing. I can recommend the sites buyfollowers.fr and www.social-provider.com.
Automate the growth of your Twitter account
We’ve seen a number of strategies in the previous section that, when applied properly, will help you grow your Twitter account quickly and steadily.
Unfortunately, performing all of these tasks (finding followers to follow, following them, unfollowing followers followed 8 days ago,…) every day is extremely time consuming. In addition to the “time” aspect, these tasks are often similar and boring to achieve. This is precisely what makes all the interest of automation: to free ourselves from tasks that take us time and for which we have a low added value.
How automation works under Twitter
Automation on Twitter, or any other social network, has been fairly straightforward for several years thanks to the emergence of specialized software.
Once set up, this software will perform the desired operations on its own, without requiring your intervention. This obviously requires that you let these softwares work all day long. For that several solutions:
- install this software on your computer and leave it on. This is the solution I use because my PC is on all the time either for my camgirl business or for my second business. Now, if you have a big gamer PC that consumes a lot of power and makes noise or a laptop that you have to take with you, this solution is not necessarily viable.
- use a small PC dedicated to this task that will remain on permanently. You need to choose a PC that is compact, quiet and consumes very little power. You can for example use a NUC or this type of mini-PC. No need for a dedicated screen, plug it into your TV.
- install the software on a VPS ( virtual dedicated server). I let you look for more details on the internet but basically it amounts to rented a computer that works 24/24h but is not at home. Cost: a few € per month.
Honestly to start and test, do not go and invest in a specific PC or a VPS. Use your usual PC first and you will invest later if necessary.
The technical criteria/economic model of good automation software
Before I present the software I use and recommend, I think it’s important to address two points:
- An important technical consideration is how the software connects to Twitter. There are two schools: via the Twitter API or by simulating a classic browser (chrome windows, chrome Android, Safari,…) via https requests. Without going into technical details, the second solution is clearly preferable because it is similar to what a human would do. In this case, no reason to be shadowban or receive phone checks if you stay within reasonable thresholds.
- That leaves the price criteria. There are two models: a monthly subscription or a lifetime payment. The majority of automation software is on a monthly subscription basis, in the range of £20-30 per month. If this is affordable, it is still not negligible after a few years. We find today good automation software in lifetime payment (= lifetime), this is what I use now and I recommend.
My choice of twitter bot for camgirl: Twitterdub
As I explained in the previous paragraphs, there are plenty of software to automate your social networks. In my opinion, the most suitable software for our camgirl needs is twitterdub.
Needs summary:
Function/feature needed | twitterdub |
Twitter compatible | ok |
Follow | ok |
Follow followers of such-and-such account (competitor…) | ok |
Follow active users (who like and retweet) | ok |
Unfollow (after configurable delay) | ok |
Send DM to new Followers | ok |
Tweet layout | ok |
Connecting via https (no API) | ok |
lifetime payment (=lifetime access) | ok |
This is just a brief overview of what this software can do. Exploring all the options, you will certainly find more possibilities. Also, a forum is available on the site and the creator of the software is very responsive to every request.
In terms of pricing, twitterdub is at the time of writing this article on promotion at $97. This is a Lifetime license, so you will have lifetime access to this software.
One final note: like most of its competitors, this software only works on Windows. If you are a fan of the apple brand no panic, there is still a solution. You need to create a virtual machine using for example VMWare which will allow you to create a windows system and thus run twitterdub. Another solution, rent a VPS and take advantage of it not to leave his MAC on all day.
You have reached the end of this article. Well done because it is quite long! I hope it has opened your eyes to the possibilities of Twitter. It is currently in my eyes the best opportunity to increase its visibility and therefore its number of veiwers and by extention its income. It’s up to you!
