How to become a camgirl? That’s a question you’re probably asking yourself if you check out this page. To begin with, you should know that becoming a Cam hostess or camgirl is not simple but is within the reach of all motivated girls. This guide aims to give you the steps to take step by step to succeed in this field.
Why become a camgirl? – The reasons
In the end, there are a multitude of reasons to become a camgirl. Each one has its own but we can nevertheless group these reasons into 3 main themes:
Becoming autonomous and independent through showcams
The desire for autonomy and independence is common to many male and female entrepreneurs. By becoming a camgirl, you work whenever you want, without depending on anyone(except the viewers obviously 😉 ). You don’t have to answer to your supervisor or boss and can grow your own small business at your own pace whenever you want.
Your hours are free, you can do this activity in addition to your job or as your main activity. A significant advantage is that it is a work from home. So you have no geographical constraints, only an internet connection is needed. With a good 4G connection, you can even work from anywhere and even perform shows in unusual places.
Camgirl, easy money??
The vast majority of humans do not work for fun, but only to make money. Being a webcam hostess or amateur is a quick way to earn money without having any special knowledge (no need to be a graduate!). You can start earning good money only after a few weeks of work.
Warning though, this is not easy money nor a miracle recipe to get rich in 2 weeks or even become a millionaire. Creating your camgirl business requires serious work but anyone can do it. For more information on camgirl income, feel free to read this article (bonus, my figures).
Liveshows, a way to combine business with pleasure
Money is good, but if on top of that you can get pleasure while working, that’s better! Fantasy, sex, role-playing, masturbation, seduction, stripping, orgasm, all these aspects are at the heart of the camgirl job. What other job can say the same?
Of course, not everything is so idyllic. There will be evenings when viewers won’t flock to your room and the expected fun will give way to loneliness and doubts. Don’t worry, this is normal, we’ve all been there. Perseverance is the key.
Also, your emotional state related to your personal life will sometimes make masturbating on demand not so enjoyable. Again, this is normal. We are not machines, tell yourself that the next shows will only be better ;-).
But fortunately, there will be nights when you’ll have so much fun that you’ll have a hard time getting to sleep afterwards. You’ll lie awake reminiscing about your show, the discussions with the viewers, or the sensations provoked by this new sex toy,… by the time all those good emotions come down and you finally fall asleep peacefully. What other job would put you through this type of situation?
Are you made to be a Camgirl? – The Prerequisites
18 years old, the minimum age required to become a camgirl
Logical prerequisite but worth remembering. It is obviously necessary to be at least minimum 18 years old to become a Cam Girl. All serious Cam sites will ask you for a copy of an ID to finalize the registration process.
If you’re under 18, you’re going to have to wait and use this time to question the merits of this project.
A word of advice: if the site you’re registering with doesn’t verify your identity/age, run away! If the managers of this webcam platform are this lawless, there is little chance you will ever see your money.
Be comfortable with your body to perform quality and remunerative liveshows
To make money you’re going to have to disclose your body in order to provoke desire in your viewers and entice them. So you need to be confident and not afraid to show yourself.
Reassure yourself, you don’t have to be a busty blonde to make money. There is a multitude of niche, for all tastes: milf, brunette, bbw, latina, lesbian, bondage, mature woman, anal, squirt, Asian, bigboobs, teen – young, cougar, mature, fetish…
On the other hand, I’m not going to lie to you. It is logically easier, let alone for a beginner, to make money being young with a nice physique. But it is quite possible to get by with a “lambda” physique. You’ll definitely make less money than the “hottie” girls, but you’ll still make a comfortable income. And remember, attitude is at least as important as looks!
Camgirl and Shakespeare’s language
It’s a recurring question: do you have to speak English to become a camgirl? So, it’s not necessary to be bilingual but some English is necessary for two reasons:
- The most important platforms are American and not all are translated into French. So you will need to have a sufficient level of English to use these platforms. Nothing very complicated though because you will have the possibility to use online translators to help you and the level of English needed remains low.
- Many users speak English. In the platform options, you have the option to select the languages you want to use and thus not select English. Although it is possible to earn money by making shows only for French people you are nevertheless depriving yourself of an important clientele. So gradually improve your English to increase your income.
Smiling and naughty are paramount qualities to become a camgirl
If you’re not smiley and naughty, you’re going to have to work on both of those things! Viewers are looking for interaction with hostesses and not just a video they are passive in front of (in which case, there’s less money…).
So you have to chat, chat, the show must be interactive. It can also happen that you come across clients who are ultimately more interested in chatting than anything else. Does this surprise you? Well, it’s not that rare! Nevertheless, in most cases they are there for the “porn” side of things. You must therefore be sensual, naughty, sexy, smiling and attentive to their fantasies!
The_problem_of_privacy_for_camgirls
We are touching on a sensitive topic here. Most novice webcam lovers don’t want people and their circle of friends to know about their camgirl activity. Honestly, there will always be a risk of being recognized but there are several ways to greatly limit that risk. Some tips:
- Don’t choose a nickname that can be linked to your identity.
- The space being filmed should not have any clues that identify you.
- Disguise yourself! To avoid being recognized, what better way than to not really show up?
- Last but most important tip. Platforms have options to block access to your room to viewers from certain geographical areas(countries, regions see city). Don’t hesitate to use them! You can for example prevent French internet users from seeing your shows. You thus limit very strongly the risk of being recognized but you also deprive yourself of a large number of potential customers.
I have actually written an article on how to stay anonymous during shows.
What equipment is necessary to become a camgirl?
Contrary to what the image suggests, becoming a camgirl doesn’t require a large hardware investment. No need to invest in a studio with a professional camera, no, a webcam, a computer and some sexy items are enough.
A quality webcam, first camgirl investment
Having a HD webcam is highly recommended, if not mandatory, to make a good quality show. We don’t recommend using the original webcam on your laptop. Firstly, they often don’t have the necessary video quality. Secondly, the fact that it is linked to the screen will handicap you. Indeed, difficult to read the screen to exchange with viewers while offering a nice shot of your anatomy… You can start like this but a good webcam will be your first investment.
A good quality HD webcam will cost you between 50 and 100 euros. You can check out our article Which webcam to choose.
Which_computer_to_perform_your_first_shows?
Good news, broadcasting webcam shows doesn’t require a computer with significant performance. Chances are, the one you’re using right now is sufficient.
If it wasn’t, or you don’t currently own one, any mid-range ocomputer purchased Neuf today will have more than enough performance. It’s increasingly rare, but some platforms are not compatible with macOS. So check this point when choosing your one. Note that there are ways to get around the problem. We will come back to this in a specific article.
Good quality shows need a good internet connection
A good internet connection is necessary in order for the video quality of your shows to be optimal. Your computer will stream the feed from your webcam to the broadcast platform you choose. It is therefore recommended to have an upload speed of where at least 2 Mbps (1 Mbps is the bare minimum).
You can test your uplaod speed on testdebit. Remember to turn off all devices/software using the internet before performing the test. We also advise you to prefer an ethernet(wired) connection rather than wifi. The maximum flow will be more important and stable, less subject to disturbances.
Bien choisir et aménager son lieu de diffusion
Ideally, you should have a specific venue, dedicated to performing your shows. It will allow you not to be disturbed and interrupted during their realizations. It should also not have any element that could identify you. Most models use their bedroom or a room dedicated to this activity.
Don’t neglect the lighting of this broadcasting space, above all. Indeed, a good experience for your viewers goes through a good lighting. Don’t hesitate to play with different lamps, or even acquire specific projectors, to get the best rendering on camera. Build your own mini-studio!
Sexual outfits, an asset for your liveshows
Remember, you need to provoke desire in your viewers, make them fantasize. So put away your fleece in the closet and use your sexiest outfits: thong, tanga, bodysuit, shorts, garters, sexy disguise, you need to put yourself out there.
You’ll have to think aboutrenewing this post regularly so as not to bore your viewers. But hey, there are worse constraints… What girl doesn’t like pretty lingerie?
Sextoys, the best friends of camgirls
Last on the list, but yet one of the most important: sextoys. It’s simple, the more you have, the better! Dildo, vibrator, fuckmachine… multiply them!
A huge plus is having an interactive sextoy(connected sextoy). This way, your viewers will be able to interact directly with you, virtual sex of sorts. Connected sextoys will react to tips during public shows on freemium platforms but will also allow your customers to control them directly during private shows. In my opinion, this is a MUST!
There are several brands like Lovense, kiiroo or Ohmibod. Lovense is in my opinion the brand that offers the best products. It is also the brand that presents the best compatibility with the different cam platforms. I wrote a specific article on the subject.
The most represented connected sextoy in the camgirl scene is the Lovense Lush2. It is a vibrating egg that you keep almost permanently during your shows and will react to tips or solicitations from the client. Practical and very powerful!
Personally, I also use the Domi2, it is a very powerful connected Wand. It is the sextoy that gives me the most pleasure. Not being in place all the time (unless you hold it against your sex all the time…), it is less practical in public show than the Lush2. The ideal being to have both 😉 )
The best connected sex toys:
The Lovense Lush 2: the most used connected sex toy for camgirls. A must-have!
Details on the Lush2 product page.
The Lovense Domi 2: The connected wand with super autonomy. A perfect ally for camgirls!

Choose the cam site to broadcast on – become a camgirl
Which platform to choose? There is no universal answer to this question. There are a multitude of broadcast platforms and the choice depends on your purpose, seniority as well as your personality.
The criteria for choosing your cam site
- the business model: there are two models of camming site: fremium and premium. You can check out this article to get more details about these two models and choose the one that suits you best. A knowledge of the different types of shows is important to fully understand how these two types of sites work.
- site popularity: the more traffic you have on a site, the more likely a visitor is to pass by your profile. It is therefore your first lever of visibility. So you should not neglect this point especially since the sites with the biggest traffic are often those with the most marketing means.
- competition/competition: the sites with the most traffic are often those with the most camgirl/hostess. The more competition there is, the harder it will be for you to break through, especially in the beginning. You must therefore find the best compromise between traffic and competition. So you have to refer to the ratio [number model] / [number visitor] to find the one where the competition is the least.
- how much does the site pay: the sites take a part of the tips or payments made by the viewers for the operation of the platform. This is money that you will not touch but which is used to promote the platform. When you start, it is better to focus on traffic to create a community even if it means earning slightly less.

Register and perform your first camgirl show
Have you picked your platform and are ready to sign up? Let’s get started! In addition to your ID card you will need to fill in:
- a nickname: you must choose a nickname in order to register on the webcam platform. It will also be used if you choose to promote yourself on social networks. Some tips for choosing this nickname: it should be sexy, memorable and you like it. For privacy issues, avoid any annotation that could identify you.
- a description: a tip, be yourself! But do not go through four paths, be frank and direct. Indicate your availability if your platform does not include planning fields.
- pictures: they will be the first thing that visitors will see. It is therefore necessary to pay attention to them. They must be sensual, suggestive. Do not hesitate to renew them regularly. A profile picture showing your head will also be requested to validate your registration.
The registration process is finalized. Are you ready for your first show? For your first login, plan on a minimum of 2 to 3 hours to familiarize yourself with the platform. It is also important to keep an important rhythm during the first weeks in order to keep your customers loyal. Some tips to succeed in these shows? Read this article!
A camgirl must promote herself
It is necessary to promote it, to build a marketing strategy. To make money in the long run, it’s not enough to create an account on a platform and hope that the euros will follow. You have to create and retain your fanbase. This happens on the platform as well as off.
Doing his promotion on the show cam platform
On cam platforms, promoting yourself is intimately related to your attitude. The more present and engaged you are in your chatroom the more fans you will have. You need to communicate with them, make them happy and desire your shows. There is no secret, smile and be attentive to their desires.
Don’t hesitate to remind your viewers to add you to their favorites. That way, they’ll be notified when you log in during future shows.
Also, consider asking your viewers to follow you on your social networks. This will keep them loyal while easily growing your subscriber base. The more subscribers your account has, the more legitimate and visible it will be.
Camgirls and Social Networks
Social networks are the best way to find new clients in my opinion.
You should create profiles to promote your chatroom. Beware, not all social networks allow adult content. You can use Twitter in particular (see this article) but also sites like sex.com (the printerest of porn). Facebook and Instagram are very (too) strict on sexy content.
We’ll come back to all these aspects in the marketing section.
Note well that if it is possible to block access to your chatroom to certain geographical areas, this will not be possible on these social networks. So be careful with your privacy.
Go further: increase and multiply your revenue
Your first steps in the “adult webcam” business are now taken and your community is growing. Good, but how do you increase and diversify your income? There are many ways to make money while staying in the same theme. Here are a few:
The cam-splitting: one show, many platforms, full of viewers
Cam-splitting involves sharing your webcam on multiple platforms at the same time. This way you multiply your income without increasing the time spent online.
Some downsides: this practice is not allowed by all platforms and it requires some experience to juggle between the different chats. All you need for this is a cam-splitting software.
Selling videos on marketplace: almost passive revenues
You can also get out of the live show business andsell your porn videos or other fetish items on specialized marketplaces such as manyvids.
For videos, the advantage is that you do the work once and get multiple lifetime earnings. Don’t hesitate to use social networks and cam platform to promote your products on these marketplace.
Monetize your camgirl audience by creating your fan club
It’s all about monetizing your audience by having them sign up for a monthly subscription in exchange for exclusive naughty videos or photos. This way, you guarantee yourself a recurring income every month.
There are several solutions: premium snap, specialized sites (onlyfans, ModelCentro, MYM.fans ) or even via a service integrated into your cam platform.
Affiliation platform cam, earn money while sleeping
Affiliation is about recommending the platforms you use to potential customers. If they use your link to sign up for the platform, then you will make money.
There are several types of remuneration depending on the platform: fixed at registration, percentage of purchases made by the customer on the platform… In conclusion, put an affiliate link when you indicate a link to your chatroom on social networks. More information on affiliation in this article.
You’ve reached the end of this guide that will hopefully help you make a living from sex cam. The hardest part is, as is often the case, to take action, to take the first step. So don’t delay and start now. As a well known artist said: “action is the first step to success”. Go for it, you won’t regret it. Personally, I’ve been doing this camgirl business for several years with some satisfaction.
FAQ becoming a camgirl
Do I report income from my camgirl activity?
Of course! All money earned must be declared and income from camgirl shows is no exception. And this applies whether camgirl is your only business or just a side business in addition to your “regular” job.
There are several possibilities in France to declare your camgirl income:
- the micro-enterprise / autoentreprise: this is the simplest form of business there is: ultra-simplified creation, lightened accounting, easy to understand taxation (a percentage of the turnover). To benefit from its advantages it is necessary on the other hand not to exceed a certain ceiling of turnover.
- The individual company: the form of company the most traditional and used by many liberal professions, craftsmen and tradesmen. It allows in particular to deduct its professional expenses (purchase of equipment and internet connection mainly for a camgirl) and is not limited by a ceiling. On the other hand, the accounting is much heavier to manage and although an accountant is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended.
- SASU or EURL companies: Unlike an autoentreprise and a sole proprietorship which are businesses in their own names (you are your own business), companies are legal entities in their own right. We pass again a step in complexity, an accountant is mandatory as well as a lawyer to write the statutes.
I imagine that if you are wondering about declaring your income from cam shows is that you are a beginner. In most cases, and if you are in France, the most obvious choice is then to create an autoentreprise. I actually wrote an article about it.
If you are an experienced camgirl, the easiest way is to get in touch with a chartered accountant or a business creation consultant. It will cost you a few hundred euros but you will have an answer adapted to your situation (amount of income, family status…)
Do you need a special physical appearance to become a camgirl?
This is a question I get an awful lot of times in the form of “do you have to be a supermodel to succeed as a camgirl?”
The answer is very clearly NOT.
Now, there is no doubt that statistically the most present camgirls on the first pages of cam sites are rather young and beautiful than old and ugly. But you can also see that there are an awful lot of girls with normal physiques.
Personally, I have a pretty average physique and it doesn’t stop me from making money as a camgirl. I have a small chest that was a complex for me when I was a teenager and that I totally assume now. I think that the most important thing is there, you have to assume your physique. As they say, all tastes are in nature and there are enough male cam customers to find some who like your physique.
Whatever your physique it is important to put yourself forward, to make yourself desirable to the viewers of webcam shows. Better a girl with a classic physique but well dressed (makeup, hair, accessories, sexy outfit) and smiling than a supermodel with no hair and a “face”. Attitude is at least as important as looks.
Can I perform my camgirl activity part-time?
No problem!
This is one of the big advantages of being a camgirl, you manage your schedule as you wish, whether it’s your working time or even the time of the day at which you perform your webcam shows. It is also important to know that the majority of camgirls do not work full time.
Beware though, this freedom must go hand in hand with a certain rigor on your part. Certainly, you can work when you want but:
- that’s no reason to work 1 hour a week 😉 . You’re going to have to work a minimum anyway!
- as we often say, customers are kings and so you have to call yourself on their schedule. There is no point in working between 7 and 8 pm if your customers are French and therefore eating. My example is a bit simplistic but the idea is to test the time(s) of the day when the most clients are available and perform your camgirl shows at that time(s).
As you may have noticed from reading my other articles (feel free, it’s free! 😉 ), I work as a camgirl on the side and am therefore far from performing webcam shows full time. Why did I make this choice? Mainly because I want camgirl to remain a pleasure for me and I don’t feel too much like doing shows every day for 6 hours. 3h 3 to 4 times a week is for me (and this is only my personal case) a very good balance of money – free time – pleasure. Moreover, the time available allows me to do other activities that interest me and are close to my heart. Today it is an additional professional activity, but it could be hobbies, travel or other.
Is the camgirl business not saturated?
This is a question I also get a lot: “isn’t the camgirl business saturated?” or “is it still possible for a camgirl to make it?”
For me the camgirl business is definitely not saturated and it is still possible to make a place for yourself. What makes me say that the market is not saturated? Several points:
- the number of existing camgirl sites has never been so large. There are now several dozen cam sites, of which about ten are very well known and drive a lot of traffic. These sites earn money as well as the girls (not all, of course) who use them, so the market is still buoyant. When we see many of these big sites closed, we can then conclude that the market is mature and will start to be saturated. This is not the case at all in 2024.
- The new generations are more consumers of live porn than the previous ones. You only have to look at the success of OnlyFans and MYM with them to see that. It started a few years ago but these customers are now settled in active life with enough purchasing power to afford camgirl shows. I have observed for some time a decrease in the average age of my customers while I still have many old faithful customers. Proof that the new generation (I’m getting quite old writing this when I’m just in my thirties 🙁 ) is very fond of camgirls. So the camgirl market has a bright future ahead of it.
- More personal point, since I’ve been doing webcam shows, I’ve never made as much money per hour aired as I will in this year 2021/2022. I regularly have new clients coming in while I work my social networks less than I used to. I may be performing better than before but I think that comes more from the increase in clients on the cam site than my talent.
- More general point, sex-related jobs have always done well and generally don’t have a crisis. The COVID crisis is a good demonstration of this with an increase in traffic on cam sites.
All this shows that the market is not saturated. Nevertheless, this does not mean that becoming a camgirl is an easy task. The camgirl business remains a competitive field with a lot of turnover. But you just have to be persistent and follow the right advice to make it.
Is it a good idea to become a camgirl to pay for college?
A good idea, I don’t know but a possibility certainly!
To be honest with my female readers, I started my camgirl business once I was in the workforce. So I was never in the position of a student camgirl. Nevertheless, my experience and my exchanges with several students who became camgirls to finance their studies allow me to give you some elements:
The advantages for a student to become a camgirl
- Flexible hours: this is a big plus for a student whose time allotted to her professional activity is quite often evenings and possibly weekends. Because of the possibility of working at almost any time, the camgirl activity is totally compatible with the time constraints of a student. Similarly, you also have the opportunity to work less in the run-up to midterms / exams and work more during the holidays for example.
- Earnings that can be important compared to the number of hours worked: compared to a job as a waitress or a MacDo employee (classic student job), the income that a camgirl can earn is much more important compared to the number of hours worked. Of course, this is not necessarily the case the first few weeks, but once her clientele is established the earnings of a camgirl can be unrelated to those of a conventional student job.
- No need to travel: a student often does not have a car and is therefore dependent on public transport if she does not find a job right next to her home. Public transport is not always available nor necessarily the most pleasant when you work in the evening and you finish at 11pm … A camgirl working from home, she does not have these disadvantages: no loss of time in transport, no expense and maximum security by staying at home.
- who says student says young (most often): you leave with an advantage in the world of camgirls. Clients prefer young girls (just look at the number of #teen tags on cam sites) so you might as well take advantage of it! Camgirl is one of the few jobs where being young with little experience is ultimately an advantage 🙂
- marketing skills (social media/community management): if you get serious about your camgirl business, you will develop practical marketing skills. Managing a fan base is nothing more or less than community management. Likewise, listening to what your customers are looking for in order to offer shows accordingly is part of the basics of marketing (customer need analysis).
The disadvantages for a student to become a camgirl
- you can’t put it on your resume: and yes, in today’s society, stating that you’ve been a camgirl on your resume is more like shooting yourself in the foot than anything else (unless you’re applying to Jacquie and Michel!). Camgirl is a difficult experience to value on the job market.
- risk of being discovered: this is, I think, the most blocking point for many girls (student or not for that matter). Fortunately, there are many techniques to greatly limit the risk of being discovered. I invite you to read this article for more details. You can limit this risk even more by using a private show platform like Xmodels.
- Last but not least, the salary of many jobs accessible after your studies might seem low. Indeed, if you manage to earn between 800 and 2000€ per month (which is realistic) broadcasting in the evening after your classes, you might not find it very interesting to work full time as a salaried employee for 1800€ or 2000€ per month (and still, many jobs pay less…). Of course, it’s not comparable (no holidays, no CE… as a camgirl) but still. Important point: if it can be tempting to stop your studies to earn more money as a camgirl, I strongly advise against it. Camgirl is not a safe and stable profession, finish your studies first so you always have a backup plan.
